Vol. 23, No.6

Editor's Note

Every issue has to be the "best" one. The latest candidate for "best" Springhouse up to this time was Volume 23 Number 5. Perhaps the cover was not exactly the color intended, and no doubt the usual typos managed to appear; overall, however, it at least pleased the editor. Let us hope Volume 23 Number 6 nudges its predecessor aside. It goes without saying, of course, the one who really needs to be pleased is the reader—in other words, you.

There is a good chance we will find something of value here because the format for the issue just past has not been abandoned. "My Five Books" once again graces these pages, as does William Searles' account of the Ohio riverbed as it once was. Dixie Terry, reliable correspondent in the food department, shares with us her delicious recipes, and there are scattered throughout these pages enough poems, and photographs, and just plain surprises to satisfy that eclectic something within us all, or so we hope. A few will not be pleased that the Rebel Without Applause is back, but he's back anyway, in much the same way gray November weather never fails to follow the golden afternoons of October.

This magazine is published for your enjoyment.
Enjoy it—please.
